Stricell – Stretchmarks prevention & treatment cream with liposomed plant stem cells of centella asiatica

Improves the overall look of stretch marks. Reduces its colour intensity. Improves the skin roughness surface.

Many women (between 50% and 80% are reported) develop stretchmarks during pregnancy. A number of creams have been claimed to remove these stretchmarks once they have developed but there is no reliable evidence to support such claims. Stretch marks may be prevented in some women by daily massage but it is unclear if any particular ingredients bring special benefit. Stretchmarks are common by the end of pregnancy, occurring in most women. Though they later shrink and fade somewhat, they do not go away. Any topical treatment which could prevent the development of striae would be welcomed by many women.

The appearance of stretchmarks depends on the colour of the skin. There are basically two types: Striaerubra (red stretch marks) and Striaealba (white ones). Recently striaerubra, usually wider than white stretch marks, are shown both in men and women. However, striaealba, are old and narrow stretch marks. Stretchmarks can be classified by genus (men and women) and according to their distribution (horizontal and vertical).

MEDITOPIC [StriCell], a liposomal preparation of centella asiatica stem cells was thus evaluated to assess the effects of topical treatments on the later development of stretchmarks (in vivo test).

Stem cells are non-programmed and undifferentiated cells found in multi cellular organisms that have a large capacity of self-renewal. They are able to replenish themselves through mitotic division into two identical daughter cells and also have the unique ability to differentiate and become specialized cells with specific functions. The behaviour and characteristics of stem cells depends on the signals from the neighbouring environment and epigenetic factors, which induce changes in gene expression. Their special properties provide stem cells with a great potential for regenerative medicine and cosmetic applications.

In vitro efficacy: effect of MEDITOPIC StriCell on the activity of epidermal stem cells. The effect of the product on the proliferative activity of the epidermal stem cells was studied by identification of stem cell markers Keratin 10 (expressed by all viable suprabasal keratinocytes in normal human epidermis, becoming a specific marker for differenciated keratinocytes) and Ki67 (marker of identity of pluripotency of epidermal stem cells).

Clinical Evaluation:

Effect Of Meditopic [Stricell] In The Treatment Of Striae.
StriCell, a nourishing anti stretch marks cream, provides a novel source of active ingredients for skin renovation. Evaluated by volunteers and dermatologists in a in vivo test carried out with 20 women between 35-60 years.

StriCell improved the general look of the stretch marks (+32%), reduced the intensity of their colour (-31%) and improved the skin roughness surface (-35%) in 28 days.

For a significant percentage of volunteers, the product was judged to improve stretch marks appearance, firmness and elasticity of skin. Volunteers stated that skin looked brighter, smoother, softer and more comfortable.

75% of volunteers expressed that the overall look of the stretch marks had improved.
70% of volunteers thought that the colour of the stretch marks got much better.

Evaluation by dermatologists, Volunteer’s self-questionnaire, 20 women, 35-60 years, Buttocks and thigh, 2 daily applications.
